Classic Tournament

Gentlemen:

There have been many inquiries and suggestions to the board for the Classic. For the new guys, The Classic is a pick your partner 4 ball flighted competition played over 3 rounds with 8 teams per flight with the winners advancing. This tournament has had an outside of the association Calcutta money pool associated with it for a number of years but waning interest has given us an idea to try for this year. Here are the changes for this year:

1. There will be a Championship Flight qualifier held on Sunday July 7th. Low 8 teams will make up the championship flight. This flight will be head to head with NO handicap strokes. There will be a $250.00 per team fee to make up the pot of money. All proceeds payable. $1400 to winners and $600 to runner up.

If there is no interest, or not enough teams to make up a Championship Flight, then the the Championship Flight will be eliminated and low 8 teams that sign up will make up the first flight with handicaps INCLUDED at 80% off the low man. A $100 per team fee will be used instead of the $250.

2. For all remaining flights, there will be a $100 entry per team. This will create a pot of money per flight with the winners collecting $560 and runner up at $240. Handicaps included at 80% off low man in the group. Flights will be determined by the combined handicaps of each team. We had considered keeping team handicaps within 6 points of each other for competitive fairness, but this tournament was created for the membership to play with whomever they wanted which differs from the 4-ball tournament.

This has always been a money tournament and for some, they have soured on the Calcutta due to others purchasing their teams or others bidding up their teams too high. Hopefully, this new format will alleviate these issues.

This was a long and sometimes heated negotiation amongst the board last night. We settled on this format and will try it for this year. If successful, this can become a regular format. If not, we tried and will try again next year to make it right. As always, membership input is vital and feel free to contact me with your ideas.

Please note, a side Calcutta can be done on your own but in no way will the association have a hand in this.

Hoping you all hit bombs and fire at pins!

Thank you.

President’s Cup

Gentlemen:

The President’s Cup is a 3 week, day of play sign up tournament. Please make certain you add the date of each of your 2 rounds. You must include the dates of each round on the sign up sheet. I realize this may be difficult to comprehend which is why I am giving you early notice. If you remember, please add first or second round to your scorecard. This is NOT mandatory, but would help said scorekeeper.

With another lovely rain drenching weekend upon us, we will notify you as soon as possible concerning playing conditions.

Also, the Member-Member sign up sheet is out. This will be our next tourney in 4 weeks.

Play well!
Tom Terzakis

Point Tournament Notes

Gentlemen:

This past weekend we had the weather-challenged Point Tournament. We had 22 members brave the rain and of the 22, 15 cards were scored. Due to the extremely small size of the field, there will only be one flight and the additional money will be moved to an event at a later date.

Now, that being said, all is not well with the scoring by the membership. Should this keep up, I may have a new blog called “Tommy’s DQ Corner” and expose those who are having issues… just kidding… maybe. Anyway, this weeks DQ’s include:

1. Completed card and correct math, dated, named, signed and attested by a “question mark”. Seriously?

2. Completed card with no date, tournament name, no signature and no attest.

3. Completed card attested by player named with no name of scorer, no date and no tournament name.

I see many of you come in and complete a second card after the round. This is appreciated as they tend to be very neat but you have to remember to have it signed and dated.

The next 3 weeks is the President’s Cup. Hopefully this is an easy one as you add up your score, apply your handicap and submit your net. Sign and double check your math. Don’t forget to sign up on the date you play. Need 2 rounds over a 3 week period. Do not sign up 3 times please.

Finally, any new member who has a “trend” can use that for our tournament purposes.

That is all…

Pick Own 2-Man Notes

Gentlemen:

Weather permitting, this week is the Point Tournament. This is a day-of-play sign up. Please review the scorecard posted by the sign up sheet and follow this template. Please submit scorecards in the slot underneath the sign up sheet.

Notes from Week 1 – Pick Your Own 2-Man Team:

1. The potential overall 1st flight winner incorrectly scored a hole thus submitted a card with an incorrect score. This card was a net 59 which should have been a 60 which would have won the first flight. DQ

2. To Ray, Ed, Bill and Cesar- without last names I am at a loss. DQ

3. To the couple of cards with handicaps and no dots or slashes (* or /) on handicap holes. I am not going to complete your cards for you. DQ

4. To the cards with no scores added up. I am not going to complete your cards for you. DQ

This is not a difficult process to follow the template and add your card.

Finally, the note of mark, lift, clean and replace was vague and we will try to do better to inform you of playing conditions.

Thank you,
Tom Terzakis
